Covers Ahlstrom's performance and recognitions in key areas of sustainability

Ahlstrom, a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials, has released its Sustainability Report 2024 today. The report covers Ahlstrom’s performance and recognitions in key areas of sustainability and provides insights into Ahlstrom’s strategy and transformation.
Ahlstrom’s growth transformation is guided by its purpose: “To Purify and Protect with Every Fiber for a Sustainable World”. Sustainability is a fundamental driver for Ahlstrom, and 2024 demonstrates how delivering on commitments brings value to stakeholders. Ahlstrom’s strong position as a sustainable specialty materials company empowers customers to create solutions to address global trends and accelerate their sustainability efforts.
The report is inspired by the CSRD framework, including a Double Materiality Assessment, which plays a key role in its formatting. This approach makes the report comprehensive, enhancing the transparency of Ahlstrom’s sustainability efforts. The audit firm KPMG has performed a limited assurance on all the relevant KPIs in the areas of materiality.
“In 2024, we introduced the Safe and Sustainable by Design concept, aligning with the European Commission’s Safe and Sustainable by Design framework for chemicals and materials. This concept is a powerful tool in customer discussions, clearly demonstrating our commitment to delivering products with optimal environmental impact. We are enthusiastic about our goal to increase the proportion of products that meet these criteria”, says Helen Mets, Ahlstrom’s President and CEO.
Commitments to safety and sustainability in many areas had a clear impact internally and externally.
“In safety, we reached a new record for our total recordable incident rate. Our climate targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming our emissions reduction goals and net-zero target by 2050. Our work earned us a Platinum Medal from EcoVadis and a Leadership score of A- in the CDP carbon disclosure”, says Mets.
